The novel expresses Huck’s feelings, and shows that he feels guilt when something bad happens. “Huck goes against society, conversing with an African American that was a slave, and wanting to set him free.”(Joycelyn Moody). Huck does not necessarily believe in society that he is thrown into. He was not given a choice to whether or not he could do the right thing until he was put into Jim’s shoes. “Huck shows himself ready to go to hell from the first pages of the novel: he prefers "the bad place," he says, if his guardian, Miss Watson, is bound for the "good." Moreover, "all readers recognize that Huck will not go to hell because, contrary to his society's beliefs, he is doing the right thing.”(Joycelyn Moody). Huck’s morals teaches kids that racism is not acceptable. Doing the right thing sometimes means going against what was taught and following what they believe in. People wanting to read the novel are harshly accused with the question of racism. “Teachers are being punished for wanting to read a book that is popular over the whole country or even the world. Huck Finn is an American classic that teaches kids what’s wrong from right and the morals of Huck, him doing the right thing, what he believes.” (PBS). Teachers are forced to take classes if they want to read the book in their classroom. They are being told that this American Classic is not part of history and not important enough to read. This novel is important to many people around the world and these teachers aren’t allowed to even mention this book. The controversy over this novel is overwhelming and trifling, and also is the dispute over
