At the beginning of Homer’s journey, he is admittedly against abortion and expects people to be responsible enough to control themselves. Then, Rose’s situation is presented to him, and against his morals, he performs the abortion. I believe he recognizes that sometimes the decision of responsibility is taken from you. To me, being the hero of your own life means to be continent with the decisions you have made, and if given the opportunity to do something again, you would do it the same way.
