The inspiration for the renaissance came from the civilization and culture in Spain. A lot of European roots can be traced back to the "rebirth" period of art, science, and architecture that was depicted in Muslim Spain. The reason being is that while in Spain, it was a time of artistic, scientific, and commercial beauty. Spain also displayed incredible tolerance, imagination, and poetry. A great part of Spain's influences still lives with us today. During the eighth century, Europeans were still living in the Medieval Period. Typical townspeople lived in unruly conditions and had an undeveloped government and commercial economy. Around this same time, the Moors began to enter Europe from the south. The moors made great advancements in mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany, astronomy, and medicine. They even introduced the first rifle mechanisms called the "fire sticks" which played a detrimental part in their downfall when whites decided to take their land back. The Moors or Arabs built illustrious cities, revolutionized agriculture and introduced to new fruits and crops. The Moors did many things that played a key role in bringing Europe out of the dark ages. While in Europe, the Moors helped restore the civilization by teaching mathematics, astronomy, art, and agriculture. The help that the Europeans received enlightened them and brought them out of the dark ages. Also, much of what was taught is still used today. For instance, the number system that we use today was first used by the Moors. The architecture and agriculture that is used today was first introduced by the Moors too. The Moors even taught the Europeans fine dining. To put in greater perspective, the western civilization can thank of what they know to the Moors. However, some white historians would have you believe that the Moors were Arabs or white. Just as I explained before, the term "moor" means black so a Moor is basically a black person instead of a certain countryman. The Moors not only helped civilize Europe, but they also helped develop the Spanish language. While in Spain, the Moors added over four thousand words to the Spanish language. The Moors made a lot of achievements in different areas of study and life for Spain and Europe. Their achievements and discoveries have influenced our modern views of science, math, astronomy and everyday life. Without the Moors, we would all be in some form of dark or middle
