The Movie Moonlight

Great Essays
I wrote my paper on the 2016 film Moonlight that won best picture at the 2017 Golden Globes as well as the Academy Award for best picture, and best-supporting actor as well as best adapted screen play. Moonlight is a coming of age story about Chiron who is a child figuring out who he is. He is from the ghettos of Miami called Liberty City. In Act 1, You find out Chiron is alone in the world and his mom is crack addict who buys crack from a man named Juan who is the neighborhood drug boss and meets Chiron in a trap house after he was running away from kids who wanted to beat him up after school because he is gay. Juan breaks into the trap house helps Chiron leave and buys him lunch but Chiron doesn’t speak, and Juan asks him what your address …show more content…
When Chiron was with Juan that was the only time he was happy during the whole movie. When the film ends you see the younger version of Chiron looking over his shoulder we saw earlier looking at Juan when they were at the beach. Another thing very interesting is how they used color to show theme as well his house is very colorful to show where most of his pain comes from and projects and the school but the only place that is light and freeing is Juan and Teresa house that is all white and pure. In the film Moonlight the writers used Juan’s crown and durag and same type of car in the beginning of the film you see it again at the end of the film as a setup to show what Chiron has become and you see the same crown and Chiron is wearing that rag the same way Juan did in the beginning and Chiron is even driving a similar car to Juan’s foreshadowing what we would eventually see. It represents that he followed his father figure the man he admired. Being that I want to be a director, write and make films the three-act structure is very important to making a great film with a good beginning a middle and an ending. Films that miss one of these three will confuse the …show more content…
This course helped me understand the filmmaking process a lot better and what it takes to make a great script. I learned how to write a complex character from Moonlight and Barry Jenkins who made each character their own and gave them each a lot of depth and I would be lucky to write a script as successful as Moonlight. Barry Jenkins wrote this because he understood the characters he was writing about being that he related to the material. As a professional in the film business you have to feel and have a passion about what your writing about if you want success creating something that people will remember for very

MIAMI — It had just finished raining, in that swift and furious Miami way, and the director Barry Jenkins and the playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney were heading through the Liberty Square housing projects. The two men strolled past crumpled snack wrappers and empty Olde English beer cans, broken toys and charcoal-colored rat traps. Then Mr. Jenkins stepped onto the patchy grass of the courtyard that sits between a grouping of desperate-looking buildings, low-slung and austere, the type of stingy architecture we’ve come to equate with housing for the poor. He stopped, raised his arms and spread them wide.…

The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…

The stones were used to represent how they felt and thought about that person. If someone was given a smooth white stone like Diago did for his father, it meant happiness and that he was in a good place. These stones played a big role through the plot as they are what led to Diago finally being able to forgive his father. There are also many repeating sounds that occur during this film. The first sound that could be noticed with its repetition is hearing the wrapping of the silk around the bodies at the funerals.…

English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…
