One of my most favorite things to do is to watch the moon as it changes phases every so often. Anytime a full moon is supposed to happen, I always like to try and get the best picture of it that I possibly can. The moon has eight different phases. The new moon phase in which the moon's unlit side faces the Earth and is not visible unless a solar eclipse occurs. The waxing crescent phase where the moon seems to be less than one-half lit by direct sunlight. The portion of the moon being lit is increasing. The first quarter phase when one-half of the moon looks as if it’s lit up by direct sunlight. The waxing gibbous phase when the moon seems to be more than one-half but not completely lit by direct sunlight. The full moon phase when the moon's …show more content…
The portion of the moon being lit is decreasing. The last quarter phase when one-half of the moon looks like it’s lit by the direct sunlight. The waning crescent phase is when the moon seems to be somewhat but less than one-half lit by direct sunlight. A few days after the waning crescent phase takes place, there is a new moon, which then starts the cycle over again. There’s approximately a twenty-nine and a half day period for the moon phases. A while ago when I was in middle school I had briefly learned about the Apollo missions but we didn’t go in depth with them. After reading about the majority of them, I learned more interesting information that really caught my attention. After each Apollo mission, astronauts and other crew from NASA had to continuously improve their equipment and instruments. Not to mention their space crafts also needed improvements made to them. Each time they ran a mission, they had set specific goals they wanted to achieve while traveling to the moon. With every mission, the astronauts had particular landing sites where they wanted to land but not always where they able to make the proper

The moon was covered by a big round sphere which was the earth. If the earth was flat it would not cover a round object. The reason this happens is because the earth's shadow is covering the moon to make this happen the sun was used as the light source and, object covering the surface was the earth and the surface of course was the moon. A shadow of the earth covers the moon and caused the shadow to reflect upon the moon because of the sun hitting it. This describes the shape of the earth based on what's reflecting on the moon.…

Mars would be the planet to expect to show the greatest variation in apparent brightness as seen from Earth. None of the planets makes a large percentage change in its distance from the Sun. Mercury only makes a moderate change in its distance from Earth, which tends to be canceled by its phases. Mercury can hardly be seen except near Greatest Elongation, so it’s a never far from being a half-Mercury phase if visible. Venus makes a large fractional change only about 0.3 to 1.6 AU, but this is offset by the smaller fraction of illuminated surface, we see due to the phases.…

Lunar detail is visible when the Moon is near quarter phase than when the Moon is at full phase. This happens for many reasons, but primarily because the Sun is hitting the moon on the side we can see when it is near its quarter phase. The many figures on the Moon, such as mountains, cast shadows when the Sun hits them, making these details on the moon much more profound than they are when there is no Sun or shadows. The brightness, mixed with the shadows and the fixed markings on the moon like craters and mountains, make the Moon most visible when it is at quarter phase.…

Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are known as the terrestrial planets. In comparison to the outer planets, they are small in size, made of denser materials, and lack a huge numbers of moons. Even though they share these common traits, they are still very different from each other. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, yet its surface is either extremely hot or extremely cold due to the slow rotation of the planet on it's axis and the lack of atmosphere.…

Other picture gives the three reasons why the Moon appears different in the month, and there are: its spin rate, its orbit around Earth, and the illumination of half of its surface by the Sun. The last picture is showing how we see the Moon from Earth, how it appears in reality when the Moon orbit Earth, and how the Sunis Rays enter the Earth.
