In the beginning, the conversation is an agitated tone of words and actions. This can be shown
on page 53 as it says in the story “ you think that just because i act strange that we can talk and
it will be all right, his father said. “ that we can talk and it will just go away.That’s what you think,
isn’t it?” It seems like Terry’s dad isn’t getting the right help and he is agitated that Terry brought
up his problems. In the end of the story the tone is like a lonely and trapped feel. This can be
proven on page 54 when it says “ you cannot know the fear. It was dark,and i was the only one
left alive out of 54 men,all dead but me , and i knew that the Vietcong were just waiting for light.”
