Mission Statements

There is no direct mission statement associated solely with the Wizards. However, the Wizards are apart of a larger company called Monumental Sports and Entertainment. The company owns the Verizon Center, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, Eagle Bank Arena, Kettler Capitals Iceplex, and a new Arena Football franchise that will play games at the Verizon Center. On MSE’s website, the company lists seven values, which emphasizes the core purpose and focus of the company. The company’s core values are: providing first-class customer service and value for fans, championing a double-bottom line that engages, unifies and gives back to the community it serves on a daily basis, working tirelessly to build generationally exceptional teams that compete for championships year after year and create lifelong memories for our fans, measuring their performance with specific objectives and metrics and their analysis and decisions are data-driven. The fifth value of Monumental is prizing leadership, but also valuing teamwork, transparency, treating each other with respect, acting honestly and with integrity, and remaining humble. They innovate, are nimble and first to market. The company is not averse to risk. Lastly, the company has fun and is in the

In my experience in interning at the company, I believe that they these values are applied positively. The company prides itself in serving their customers. At the end of the day, there is no business in sports without the fans. Thus, the company truly employs their value of being a first-class customer service organization. Additionally, the owner of the organization, Ted Leonsis, prides himself on being innovative in the field. As a result, the company constantly tries to apply technological advances to organization. For example, the Wizards are one of a couple NBA organizations that use virtual

The book Unbroken writes about Louie Zamperini’s long, adventurous life. Multiple themes are shown throughout his life, but the most important and reoccuring theme would be survival. Three examples of survival are the crash of the Green Hornet, living on the raft, and Louie being punched 220 times in the face. When Louie started working in the air force, his chances of crashing in the B-24s was very high.…

This project was not as easy as I had originally thought it would be. I was interested in this project because I thought that it would be fun, easy, and a chance at learning more about a topic that I am thoroughly interested in. I was hoping that this project could show me, more in depth, what it is like to own a professional sports franchise. To find the answers to my questions I used the game Madden 16 and the Senior Vice President of the Columbus Blue Jackets front office to understand what goes into owning a sports franchise and to create a scenario where I am the owner of a sports franchise. I started off by researching the costs of owning a franchise at school.…

    The High Line Essay

The High Line is a garden-like pathway built on a portion of the former New York Central Railroad. It is located on the west side of Manhattan and extends for approximately a mile and a half long. The interesting part of the transformation of the rail line to a public walking path is that several New York citizens were the primary advocates for the drastic change. However, the arising question is why a park was chosen to replace the railroad. The transformation suggests that New York City citizens were conscious of the environment, which is significant because it was definitely a newer concept of the mid to late twentieth century.…

    Nineteen Eighty-Four Essay

    • 5 Pages

In Nineteen Eighty Four, major themes include the authoritarianism of the government and the manipulation of language to control the minds of the people. Oceania, the nation featured in Nineteen Eighty Four, is an authoritarian state which constantly monitors its people and immediately suppresses any dissent through the use of Thought Police and its “Ministry of Love”. However, despite the use of these institutions to directly oppress the people, the language of Oceania itself is used in suppressing dissent, with concepts newspeak and doublethink passively controlling the people with little effort on the side of the ruling party. Many critics such as Shah argue that the writings of George Orwell warn of the intrusions on freedom by an oppressive government through artificial scarcity, suppression of dissent, and constant surveillance of the people; however, the development of newspeak, erasure of “untruth” by the Ministry of Truth, and the manipulation used in the Ministry of Love demonstrate that Orwell really refers to the use of language by a governing…
