Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirized many different themes of medieval literature. Among them are the code of chivalry and knightly behavior, the role and responsibility of women, and the role of religion in tales and stories. Keep in mind that this movie makes fun of alot more than the story it is mainly based off of. It is hilarious and in a sophisticated way. The idea of knightly behavior is satirized many times, including in the tale of Sir Robin, where he gets the three-headed knight to argue with himself… or would that make it himselves, theirselves? He uses this distraction to sneak past them instead of fighting them as a “brave knight” should. Another time this happens is in the tale of Sir Lancelot. Sir Lancelot gets a letter from a “damsel in distress,” who is really a little wimpy boy and Lancelot storms The Boys town and slaughters everyone there, innocent or not. This is in hilarious contrast to the idea that a knight is not supposed to harm the innocent. The idea that women are to attend to a man’s needs and are not significant people in culture at all is satirized by the women at the castle Anthrax tending to that knight’s “needs.”
Then they try to trick him into tending to their “needs” by getting him to “punish” them by spanking them for …show more content…
First, it happens when God appears to King Arthur and his knights and they kneel, but instead of God taking it as a sign of respect, he scolds them for it. It happens the second time with the use of “the Holy Hand Grenade. The number three is symbolic of the Divine Trinity and is Ironically emphasized in the use of the Holy Hand Grenade by repeating three times that after you pull the Holy Pin, you have to wait three and only three seconds before you throw it or else you go to Hell. So I guess if you wait too long you end up in Hell in Pieces… talk about R.I.P. If you throw it too soon then God kills you and sends you to Hell for disobeying his
