In “The Cask of Amontillado” It is debated whether or not Montresor is insane or not. Before asking why this is debated people often times think of Montresor as a psychopath but that begs the question what is a psychopath? A psychopath is someone who simply cannot feel emotions. The cause of psychopathy is related to a psychological defect that results in underdevelopment of the part of the brain responsible for impulse control and emotions. Since psychopaths do not feel emotions they often learn it from other people. They mimic emotions such as pain/anger/remorse/empathy while not being able to feel it themselves.
