How To Write A Reflective Essay On A Volunteer Trip

Monthly Reflection: 1 During my volunteer trip in Uganda, I was able to witness the growth of some of the most inspiring children I have ever met. I volunteered for a non-profit organization called Watoto which raises orphaned children from the ages of birth to 18 years old. I worked primarily with the preschoolers and infants. Since I volunteered every day for the next month, I was able to connect with some of the children and get to hear their backstories. I was in particular interested in Agnes’ backstory. From what I gathered, Agnes is an extremely active and independent five-year-old. Her mother passed away after her giving and her father burned their house when Agnes was two. She was stuck in the fire and when she was rescued by a neighbor and taken to the hospital, her right leg had to be amputated due to major burns and an infection. She was then sent to the local police station which then transferred her over to Watoto. She was frantic, cried a lot and had a hard time trusting the nannies at the home. With that I think there are some strengths that I have developed throughout my time working with children. The area that I think would be most easy to observe is the social and emotional development of children. It is one that I continuously keep my eye on since taking my first psychology course. From our reading, I have learned the typical behaviors of children from ages 1 to 5.
