In education, Montessori and Powell both believe that there should be someone to teach students, but they see it in very different ways. Powell believes that it would be a good idea to have children structured around a more disciplinary environment. He believes that a child should show respect, and that this way, the child will have one way of seeing things. Powell also explains that in the Military “...they all have the same haircut and clothes…”. This shows that Powell’s Militaristic experience is merging with his thoughts on an educational system. With this in a school environment, it would erase all individuality, which would destroy individual and different careers. It would almost be as if each student was taught and geared towards one profession. In addition to these examples, Montessori also has opposing ideas as to what Powell has in mind for education. In Montessori’s handbook, she explains that “...Children need respect…”. Montessori believes that children deserve respect because of the potential they possess. The children have a whole educational life they can continue and then progress into the world. With this they have limitless opportunities, but they need to be respected because if they are not, they will have their little dreams crushed. In Montessori’s handbook, children have individuality. In the handbook, Montessori talks about how the children have their own purpose that they pose themself to do. Students within her schools also are responsible for getting help whenever they decide. So in this case the students have to understand when and how to ask for help on things they can’t understand. As shown above, Montessori and Powell both differently see how structure should be portrayed and executed in a schooling
