The past two summers we worked on a Montana Cattle Ranch. The Stucky Ranch is one of three ranches featured in an Animal Planet documentary series titled, "The Last American Cowboy". This three generation, 20,000 acre family ranch, maintains a traditional old fashioned working lifestyle by preferring to use horses over ATVs, baling hay with buck-rakes and stacking it with beaver slides. After having watched the series, we contacted them and landed ourselves summer jobs. This adventure was hard work and a no thrills cowboy lifestyle. We had long, demanding, workdays, but these were also filled with moments of humorous practical jokes. The Stuckys never made us feel like just employed ranch hands. They treated us as part of their family, and likewise, we fondly consider them part of
