In this passage, it includes specific examples of compare and contrast between D’Artagnan and Monsieur Bonacieux. In chapter eight, D’Artagnan meets Bonacieux for the first time and finds out he is the landlord. Although, the two individuals have several differences D’Artagnan is eager to help him in any problem or issue that he may experience. Bonacieux came to know about D’Artagnan’s bravery from the fight against the cardinal’s guard. D’Artagnan finds out about Bonacieux secret and name when he talks to him in private.
“A man was introduced of simple men, who had the appreances of a tradesman” (Dumas,70). The man begins to speak with D’Artagnan who he knows is a brave young man. The man …show more content…
He says, “The cardinal, as it appears, pursues her and persecutes her more than ever. He cannot pardon her for the history of the Saraband” (Dumas, 72). D’Artagnan sees the man from Menug and Bonacieux, the landlord, believes he had to be involved in the kidnap of his wife, Madame Bonacieux. Bonacieux is kind to D’Artagnan who is ordered to help him find his abducted wife but he reminds him of the three months of rent that he owes him. But Bonacieux says, “Reckoning still further, that as long as you do me the honor to remain in my house I shall never speak to you about rent” (Dumas, 75). D’Artagnan allows the cardinal guards arrest Bonacieux because the musketeers are not allowed to get into another fight with the cardinals. He exclaimed him to pay for his rent and D’Artagnan says, “Gentlemen, once more, take him to prison, and keep him under key as long as possible: that will give me time to pay him” (Dumas, 81). The police returns to exclaim to the musketeers for not saving Monsieur Bonacieux when he pealed for their …show more content…
But, D’Artagnan did not save him since he recalled about Bonacieux claiming him about the money he owed for the last three months’ worth of rent. D’Artagnan realizes that he was about to make a choice on whether to save him or not because he knew with Bonacieux in jail he would have the money ready to pay him when he’s released. Another difference between the landlord and D’Artagnan is their bravery. When, the landlord begins to explain to D’Artagnan about the abduction of his wife he doesn’t go looking for her by himself. Instead, he asked D’Artagnan about looking for the kidnapper of his wife. And that shows the bravery of D’Artagnan is stronger than Monsieur Bonacieux if he truly loved his wife then he would look for her instead of telling a young Gascon who doesn’t have experience. The only similarities between the two individuals is their honesty and making life choices. D’Artagnan is able to use any opportunity to ask questions just to know more information about a certain individual. And Monsieur Bonacieux is similar to D’Artagnan in making certain choices that will benefit
