Monopolies, most of the times, are attached with bad impacts, bad influences, and bad results. And after the Gilded Age, big businesses almost ruled the entire industries since laissez faire was practiced. For instance, Northern Securities Company was established after the railroads bosses fight for control of Burlington Railroad, almost triggered a financial panic that could have plunged the nation into a recession, and ultimately compromised to cooperate. Such formation represents private interests acting in a way that threatened the nation as a whole. In retrospect, some wanted to disband the trusts, some wanted the governments to set up stronger and tighter regulations, while others wanted the governments to take over all big public industries…

When we speak about Frankenstein the first thing that crosses our minds is the tale of Victor Frankenstein and his creation that turned out to be his worst nightmare. The creation of this creature is the biggest question when it comes to this story and I believe an easy explanation for the creation of Frankenstein could be Cloning or stem cell research. Stem cell research is a very complicated process and can lead to difficulties but also has its pro’s and although some people may claim that pursuing stem cell research is like playing the role of god like they said in Frankenstein stem cell research saves many lives. Some cons of stem cell research is that the plasticity or flexibility of these cells to differentiate into desired cells or organs…

Another example is that the United States imperialized the Philippines during this time in order to expand markets and create opportunities to gain natural resources. The things the United States wanted and used their resources for is yet another example of the power Big Business held over the United States Government during this time. In a world where everything must be donned “good” or “bad’, one has to ask the obvious question, is the science and experimentation in the novel Frankenstein good or bad? Victor Frankenstein sets a precedent of what not to do when you want to perform a science experiment. For this creature to be constructed out of absolutely nothing, Frankenstein must had to “desire it with an ardor that far exceeded moderation” which is unnecessary (p. 45). When someone wants something that bad, it needs to be planned out and organized, not thrown together with no regard to the safety of others. He wanted it more out of selfishness and didn’t realistically think about it and consider the consequences, thus resulting in a catastrophe.…

The New Era was a great time of business. The 1920’s saw an economy prosper due to consumerism, leisure expansion, and the establishment of a middle class. In contrast, just prior to the 1920’s America was still in the industrial age, where the unemployment rate peaked at 20 percent, and bankruptcy rates were threatening farmers by increasing tenfold. The reading states that before President Harding’s death, he was able to implement high tariffs protecting business in America, supporting costs for agriculture, and undoing wartime government control above an industry in favor of unregulated private business.
