The Hamlet who is talking to Ophelia is not the same Hamlet that she fell in love with, he had been hurt by her father who had killed his father. That changed him immensely which changed his feelings for her. It saddens the audience to see that Ophelia continues to love Hamlet despite his mistreatment of her. Ophelia’s tragedy continues, as she never gets to hear for herself Hamlet’s true feelings. His meeting with Ophelia immediately follows his “to be or not to be” monologue, which was about Hamlet’s suicidal thoughts. So he knows that if he does something, if he acts, if he kills the King, he will take serious risks and may die in the attempt. If he chooses not to act, he will lose his self-esteem. I do have a relationship of some sort with Ophelia, but I do not love her. We have slept together and I think that’s what brings us together, but in a emotional aspect , we are not close. I do admit that I use her and I use her body for my own selfish reasons but deep down I do have some sort of feelings for her, but I doubt it is love. I can't take her seriously because of her innocence and her ignorance towards how I treat her, she doesn't stand up for herself when I treat her mean, and I like women who are a challenge but she wants to follow me around like a lost puppy. I do seem to give her mixed emotions and signals about my feelings for her, but I am a bad boy, and she believes she can change me…

In this scene, Hamlet delivers his famous “To be, or not to be” speech. I believe that Hamlet was definitely faking, or at least exaggerating his feelings to try the fool the king into thinking Hamlet was considering suicide up until Ophelia enters and returns the gifts he has given her. When this happens, Hamlet seems to lose some control of himself and goes into somewhat of a tantrum against Ophelia, women, and marriages as well as people in general. I believe what happened here was that Hamlet’s emotions overwhelmed him and he broke his facade. Claudius realizes that Hamlet is not just upset because of Ophelia but because of another reason.…

She has to imitate and assimilate with him through Hamlet. This is why Ophelia sings, “He is dead and gone.”…

Ophelia is a young and innocent woman who’s too obedient and vulnerable. It seems that she cares a lot for her family as she chooses them over Hamlet and follows their advice. This only makes her look defenseless and makes it seem as if she’s too reliant on others. She can’t seem to make her own choices as they’re already made for her. For example, in 1.3 Laertes warns her of Hamlet by saying, “For Hamlet, and the trifling of his favor, hold it a fashion and a toy in blood”(5-6) which Ophelia takes into consideration.…
