“Eh, excuse me, excuse me I hate to bother you but I’m looking for someone. Would you happen to know where I can find a man called Nicolas Mack?”
“Never heard of him. Can you hand me that car jack?”
“Uh, what? Oh yes, yes here you go.”
“Thank you.”
“Li, Listen I can see your quite busy, but I’ve come a long way, are you sure you don’t know where I can find him? I’m on assignment from The Union.
*Smirk* Last I heard The Union were wiped out just like everything else during the fall.”
“Well, you heard wrong then some elements of The Union survived. It’s taken a while, a long while, but The Union has gotten back on its feet again more or less. Look who do you think has been delivering the shipments of relief supplies?”

A vision of peace and tranquillity, but the thing is it was all an illusion. We were blinding ourselves to the truth.”
“And just what truth are you talking about?”
“That utopia does not exist and because we believed it was and had ‘achieved’ it we got lazy, complacent. We thought there was nothing that could stop us. There was nothing we could not overcome with our ideals. So, when something came along, something we could not overcome…”
“Like the war.”
“Yes, it was going to have serious repercussions. Not only because it caused the deaths of so many millions, but because it destroyed our perceived convictions of what we were.”
“That there was nothing we could not stand against.”
“Exactly, people were scared now. If the war could hit us that hard what might be waiting around the corner?
“In a way the fall was inevitable.”

We will not survive a one on one fight with the raiders. Once we enter the wastelands maybe we will get lucky and the raiders will think we have gone completely insane or something and will not follow us in.”
“I would not bet on that.”
“Well if we aren’t then what are we doing? The raiders are closing in on us.”
“Well alright.”
“Just take a turn on the next road and then a left at the intersection.”

“We are entering the wastelands, Mack.”
“Good, we need go deeper into the wastelands.”
“How much deeper?”
“Just enough so that the raider’s vehicle cannot get them out again.”
“I doubt there is any place we can go that they can’t.”
“That’s true, at least for the moment.”
*Smash*
*Laughter* “The raider’s ship bonnet has fallen off. Now if I could just puncture the fuel tank we could strand them in this wasteland. Slow down lieutenant, I need to get a clear shot.”
*Bang*
“Bulls eye!”
“Now get us out of here lieutenant.”
“Aye Sir.”

“Captain Mack, I present to you The Europa.”
“All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.”
“What was that?”
“It’s from Sea Fever by John Masefield.”
“I don’t think I have ever heard of it before.”
“You should look it up sometime

To begin with, it's interesting to see the rhetoric of union leaders such as William Sylvis at the time. While I have to disagree about his statement, it does raise some question on the nature of the workers during this time period. The power of William Sylvis derived from his position as President of the National Molders' Union. The industrialization of America had challenged old concepts of republican life where communities were interdependent on each other, but individually self-reliant at the same time. Instead of local markets, they were now regional and competition more tense because of the expanded scale.…

In the modern world, there are many different countries with different systems of government. In Aldous Huxley’s utopian world, there is only one country, the “World State,” and one government, led by Mustapha Mond and the world controllers. This government system works and runs as a well-oiled machine with very little disruptions, which contributes to its success as a government. For the people of this “World State,” their government and habitations are a utopia, as is evident through the complacency of the citizens. Therefore, Mustapha Mond and the world controllers are successful in their creation of a “World State” and paradise, through the mindset of the citizens and the operation of the government.…
