Who killed young Herbert? It all started on a dark, stormy night, while playing chess. A man, from a faraway land, knocked on the door. He told a tale of a magical paw. The sinister talisman would let you make 3 wishes. In the story ‘Monkey’s Paw”, the son Herbert dies. I believe Mr. White is to blame. Even though Mr. White didn’t mean for Herbert to die, he was still the cause of his death. When Sergeant Morris threw the paw on the fire, Mr. White stooped down and snatched it off of the fire. It was Mr. White’s fault because he was warned of the consequences of the paw. He knew that fate ruled people’s lives. Mr. White paid the consequences no mind. Mr. White also said ‘As I wished it twisted in my hand like a snake”. This resembles that the paw brings death. The first man that wished also wished for death. Mrs. White and Herbert pressured Mr. White to wish for 200 pounds because he didn’t know what to wish for, even after he was warned by the Sergeant how dangerous the paw could be. …show more content…
White states “Caught in the Machinery”. Herbert was caught in the machinery and he died. Mr. and Mrs. White were not aware of where Herbert was going. In mental connection with the paw, they had a glimpse of why the stranger had come to their house. In order for Mr. White to receive the 200 pounds, Herbert had to die. So, who really killed young Herbert? I still think the blame falls on Mr. White. Mr. White picked up the paw off of the fire, as he wished the paw twisted in his hand like a snake, and he stated that his son was caught in the machinery.
