Taking defense, I aimed my fist into its stomach, pummeling it as though it was a battering ram until finally, the bird crumpled. When it was apparent the peacock was no longer moving, I cast it aside. Examining my hands, I could now see they were scratched, covered in blood. What had I just done?
To my horror, up above, I watched three more silver bird perches lower. I glanced to my side, now noticing the chaos ensuing all around. More peacocks were on the floor, charging, assaulting. Maidens shrieking, vanities knocked into, lavender curtains pulled, broken bottles spilling into the tubs, and new sets of perches descending. It was all madness, but how could I make it stop?
“Help, please, help!” I heard one of the maiden's shrieks as a peacock

Immediately, I tore from the ground into a sprint then lunged, knocking the peacock off the maiden. A fighting frenzy began, another peacock hurtled past me, and swiftly, I snatched it by its neck. I punched, kicked, and clawed. Then, as if the moment had paused, I spotted Gemma, but what was she doing? She was running from one bath to the next, dumping the contents of the right bottles in and dashing to the next. She was changing the pools lavender. She was reversing the effects!
Just then, more peacocks came rushing forward, springing on top of me. The more I fought and yelled, the faster they came. Soon a whole muster of peacocks was flapping around me, all I could see were green feather and silver talons. I let out a howl of pain. The fight was becoming unbearable. There were too many. I didn’t know how much more he could take. Then, right before my very eyes, all of the peacocks burst into flames disappearing into a cloud of ash. They were

They propped my head and began lifting my shoulders and legs. Just then, I felt a sharp stab. My body ached all over. “Wait, what are you doing?
“While you were fighting the peacocks, we were able to change the water’s toxicity and gather all twelve rings,” she quickly explained. “As soon as we did, the door opened, and the peacocks vanished...that’s when you passed out.”
My face screwed in confusion, and I began feeling my body rise. I was being lifted.
“We also learned that the purple water is healing,” said Gemma as the maidens quickly carried my body toward the nearest tub. “We need to get you in right away. You have some pretty severe wounds. We have already washed and healed ourselves. The water is soothing.” Awkwardly, the maidens lowered my feet into the tub. Instantly, I felt a stinging, stabbing sensation, that was soon replaced by a warm comfort. The water really did feel good. Gently, the maiden’s eased my whole body in, letting the water envelope over my head. Like a soft warm blanket, the water caressed me, dissolving away any aches and soreness I had previously felt. After some time, I felt strong enough to help lift himself

Morrison presents us the story of Macon Dead II encountering the sack of gold. In 1977 writer and theatre critic John Heilpern wrote a book he called Conference of the Birds, telling the story of director Peter Brook’s journey into the Sahara in the early 1970s in order to create a new form of theatre that would completely distance itself from any cultural assumptions of its audience. Brook and theatre artists from the Centre international de recherche théâtrale performed their pieces for the native populations in Africa with whom they shared neither language nor culture. One of the pieces in their repertoire was based on the 12th century Persian poem The Conference of the Birds by Farid al-Din Attar (منطق الطیر, Mantiqu 't-Tayr). Among Brook’s international troupe of actors were a young Helen Mirren and a middle-aged Yoshi Oida, better known in his native Japan.…

The wind rustles; spinning the dark-green oak leaves down onto the mud covered floor, as a young girl desperately tries to cling on to a twisted branch perched to the right of the topiary. Her hands squeeze the rough gristly bark of the oak so hard that her knuckles turn white. As she hoists her own body weight up, she kicks her legs frantically from above trying to steady herself. She soon places herself on top of the tree branch, and sighs in content, as she hovers her nose above the ground, sniffing in the fresh crisp aroma of flowers and pollen. From above, she can hear the loud caws of the crows, projecting their voices onto the sky as if it were a megaphone.…

Throughout his text On The Use of Breathing Galen identifies the purposes of respiration by examining his predecessors’ various theories on the matter and proving which of these theories must hold true. He spends a lot of time disproving Erasistratus’s theories of respiration as a means to replenish arteries and appears to believe that Hippocrates’ ideas on respiration respiration for the purposes of both cooling and nourishment. Though not mentioned by name, Galen’s views on respiration appear to match up on key points with Aristotle’s views on respiration, as outlined in his text On Respiration. Galen first and foremost addresses the issue of whether respiration acts as a cooling agent within the body.…

Why are we Coven of the Vulture? Most people view the vulture with fear or contempt, a ghastly scavenger feeding of the dead or things cast aside by others; a reminder of one’s own mortality slowly drawing near. But this misunderstood raptor means so much more than that. What most people don’t consider is that the vulture represents rebirth and new life, as well as death; new beginnings often stem from gruesome ends.…

The Birds represents more than the threat post by nature Daphne Du Maurier’s 1952 novelette The Birds depicts a small town in England during WWII where all the birds inexplicably started to attack people. While it perfectly captured nature’s cruel mechanism, The Birds actually represents more than just the threat post by nature. In fact, It also represents the notion of a threatening presence, larger than human beings with unrivalled power, an example of this that people are more familiar with is perhaps warfare.…
