Did you know our mind is often compared to a monkey?
The 'monkey mind' is a common metaphor used to describe our constantly spinning minds.
Imagine sitting at your desk all set to tackle an essay as part of an assignment. Suddenly you feel like eating something which you believe will allow you to better concentrate. Now that eating is out of the way, you get back at your desk. Just under a minute you decide to fix the printer. Once fixed, you get back again to writing your essay. What happens next?
You guessed it!
Your mind wanders off again and you find something else to do. Half of the day is gone and your essay remains untouched. That's called the 'monkey mind' .

Understand it. Listen to it. Believe that your mind is your friend. Acknowledge both negative and positive thoughts and help your mind work around those thoughts.
Imagine your mind is a supermarket. The thoughts that arise are the commodities on the shelves. Will you grab every single product on the shelves? Obviously not! Similarly when thousands of thoughts arise during the course of the day. Give yourself permission to pick and choose. You do not have to pay attention to every thought or solve that comes to your mind. A friendly direction is what your mind looks for.

The positive effects affirmations can have on our minds can never be overstated. But the importance of it is often disregarded.
