They are past the whole outrageous superstitions of things such as, if you do something bad the wicked witch will get you. For my story I would have the people believing in superstition to a higher degree than in Dracula, but not to extreme were it would make it to impossible to work with. I would have all my characters terrified in major situations except Dr Ricardo. I would exclude Dr Ricardo because he is my intelligent character and can’t believe the same things as everyone else to an extent. The purpose of this would be to make the characters more scared in their fighting against the Countess and make the story very comical to the reader. I would still keep the town ignorant of vampires. I feel people not knowing about vampires makes the story more interesting to the reader.
In the beginning of the story when Lena go tour the company I would have her met by extremely superstitious peasants. They would tell her the area she is going to is full of evil witches and if she go to the western side of the area the she may never return. They would send her prayers and give her a crucifix to protect her from evil. This would be entertaining to the reader and show how the lower class in not educated. On a serious note the crucifix would serve as foreshadow that a vampire is
