Monica Bonvicini, born in 1965 in Venice, a sculptor, video and installation artist, is arguably one of the leading Italian artists today. Bonvicini, educated at the University of Arts in Berlin (1986-93) and the California Institute of Arts in Valencia (1991-2), became seriously recognized by the international art scene in the late-90s. In her vast artistic repertoire, Bonvicini work through a wide range of media and thematics, primarily maintaining the critical, post-conceptual attitude. In one of her most famous pieces and a great example of Bonvicini's irony and distance, "Don’t Miss a Sec" (2004), a public toilet built from one-way mirrors in the middle of London, she flirted with the ideals of modernist design and Minimal Art. At the other time, she is stating after Bernard Tschumi that "Architecture is the ultimate erotic act. Carry it to excess" ("Quotations on Glass", 2006). Claiming that "from close proximity, one notices that my main objective is painting and not construction", Bodde has expanded his palette at the cost of compositions reduced to vertical lines and fields. The painter received his education from the University of Arts in Bremen (1982-9), where he studied under Karl Heinrich Greune and Wolfgang Schmitz. His body of work has been featured in a number of solo and group exhibitions all over the world, including venues such as the Planat Art Gallery in Capetown, Yeh Gallery in Seoul, Galerie Lahumiere in Paris, National Museum in Gdańsk, Haus Paula Becker in Bremen, Forum für Konkrete Kunst in Erfurt, among many others.
