There are many life lessons you can learn from The Great Gatsby. The author is trying to say that optimism is a noble trait to have in life. Jay Gatsby is characterized as being hopeful despite the lies he is constantly telling and the adversity he faces. The author, F. Scott Fitzgerald tries to convey in the book that money does not buy love. Jay tries to win Daisy over with fancy parties and his lavish home. He ultimately fails because Tom tells Daisy how Jay made his money in an illegal matter. Another lesson learned is that it may not always be easy to leave your past behind. Jay Gatsby was never able to shake off his reputation as a “bootlegger” even after all of the lavish parties he hosted. When Jay dies, no one except of Nick show up to his funeral. I would want to be the character Jay Gatsby. I like how he was not willing to give up on Daisy and his love for her. Jay is a very persistent human being. He threw amazing parties in hopes of wooing Daisy. He also took the blame for something bad that she did. She ran over Myrtle and he still loved her so much that he took the blame so that no one would find out what she did. Jay died for her. I would want to be as brave, hopeful, and confidant just like Jay. He is always calm, cool and collected no matter what the situation. I also want to be able to never give up on something ever again just like Jay Gatsby, even if the cause is considered to be hopeless by everyone else. He is a very young and courageous man. He was willing to go out of his way for his friends and the girl he love no matter what the situations
