It is September 1940 and Italy just allied with Germany and Japan to sign a tripartite pact which later became best known for the Axis Powers. The people of Italy continue to live their lives until a few hours later when the news comes out that Mussolini had just allied with Germany and Japan. The people start to question what is going to happen to them now that they are going to ally with the Allie powers. Especially the people that are not originally from Italy
Mona, Janice and Ruth have been best friends ever since they were little. Mona is the only one that is originally from Italy while Ruth and Janice were born in Great Britain and both of their families decided to come to Italy. Mona and her husband had their own café down the street from where they both lived. The business made good money so they decided to open another café at a different location in Italy. Ruth, on the other hand was an English teacher for the little ones. She enjoyed living in Italy and being an English teacher made her feel like she was close to home. Nevertheless, Janice has always been a kid at heart. Same energy and less focus on things that someone her age should worry about. She was a famous lady in Italy. A lot of people didn’t like her because she was just too extravagant but Janice figured that people were just envious. Either way

All three of them had a busy schedule but they never failed to keep in touch in order to keep their friendship strong. Especially now that Italy has allied with Germany. They have been questioning what was going to happen to them. Specifically Ruth and Janice, but it was just a matter of time until they were both taken away and sent God knows where perhaps back to Great Britain or dead. Ruth and Janice always felt like they were wanted in Italy. Yes, of course there is people that look down on them but Mona always stood by them and made them see the bigger
