Mommy's Journey

I almost didn’t make it out of my mother’s womb. I almost wasn’t able to breathe my first breath on my own. I almost became another statistic before I even had the opportunity to make that decision for myself. I almost wasn’t able to sit before you today, in spirit, hoping you enjoy this essay. On November 22, 1997, in Little Rock, Arkansas, God allowed me to enter this physical world from His spiritual realm. Wasn’t that a journey unto itself? Many scholars and applicants, if I’m not mistaken, will write about a physical journey or a preconceived journey that may or may not ever happen. I chose to write about something candid and raw. I chose to write about something that I, 50 years from now, may not remember every waking detail of, but …show more content…
As children, we didn’t know about majors, degrees, careers, or the difference between the meaning of a life with a college education and one with the lack thereof. All we knew, at least all I knew, was that I had a Mommy and a Daddy, and I needn’t worry about a thing. My first answer was a princess. The next time I was asked that question I had a different answer: track star. I thought that was my passion. At the time, I knew I enjoyed running the track and sprinting. I didn’t realize that this “passion” I had would soon fly away for one simple reason: track and field wasn’t my passion. Throughout Pre-K and 4th grade, these answers often change and for people like me, it became a cycle. It was a battle between becoming a doctor or a professional entertainer. To this day, I still fight that battle, because my professional journey hasn’t quite begun yet. Besides, there’s always a goal a being that is living would have to accomplish, right? Instead, I’ve narrowed my battleground. One career path seems a little more carefree and simple. One career path has always been more potent and serious than the other. Only one career path is set in what I really enjoy: medicine. I’ve found my …show more content…
This explains why the questions and responses to these questions changed. Throughout journeys in life, we all change, move and grow. At least, we should. Life is for the ever learning and ever growing. There is a little kid in all of us that still wants to be the princess or superhero we know we can’t be. Instead, we translate those fairytales to our career and life. Every career and life is created to help someone. In my journey through life, I want to be that princess that can help wipe the little ones’ fears away by helping them through their surgeries as a Nurse

The texts The End of Remembering by Joshua Foer and “The Ordinary Devoted Mother” by Alison Bechdel, while are stylistically very different, addresses the same themes of the memory and one’s self-identity. Foer, while not as cold or detached as a scientific paper, uses a more formal and traditional tone when compared to Bechdel who approaches these themes through the lens of a graphic novel. The result of this gives two very distinct perspective on how memories affect one’s self identity. Foer’s theoretical framework of how memory functions and Bechdel’s more anecdotal approach of the effects of her personal memories on her life, provides two very distinctive perspectives on how the prioritization of memories are connected with the creation…

When I was a child and a lot of times during my adolescence I had several moments of indecision about the things that I wanted. From the simplest to the most complicated. I was born in the wrong century; a combination of an imperfect school education and broad parents produced a curious child who dreamed of many different occupations. Growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, I’ve seen interests and talents splattered across the entire state. There were Spring Lake Middle School sport coaches who researched different exercises for training players, cross country runners who dabbled in cancer research, and many more occupations. Thus, these people influenced my upbringing; and always pushed me to follow my dreams and to never give up. They see me at my low and always pushed me to my highest point.…

I believe my love for science and the medical field has been passed down to me from my Dad. Some see him as a quirky, introverted, physics major, but to me he is the person who taught me to question both the known and the unknown, and appreciate the complex yet beautiful world we live in. I have never been good at math without having to work extremely hard at it, and the seemingly scattered rules of grammar can frustrate me. The one thing I know for sure is my desire to understand how we humans work both on a mental and physiological level. I has been said to me many times throughout my life that I should go into a profession that I am truly in love with in order to live a fulfilling life.…
