Moment of Decision Narrative I was bored. I wouldn’t admit this to anyone else, but a month into summer and anything that sounded fun was not something that I could find in the small town of Orange City, Iowa. I had gotten to the point where I was lying on my couch, switching back and forth between social media platforms, hoping that someone had posted something new. I didn’t actually care about what people were doing or how much more fun they were having than me, but it was something to pass the time. Once I had exhausted all of the two social media apps I had, I switched to Pinterest.
Pinterest and I had a love-hate relationship. I loved looking at all of the pretty things and delicious food, but I hated not being able to buy any of the pretty things or eat any of the delicious food. As I scrolled aimlessly through the feed, (6) listening to the rhythmic tap of my finger swiping across my phone, I pinned my way towards my perfect, unrealistic life. During that time, I happened upon an image of an open book in which someone had painted a picture. At first I didn’t know whether I was inspired or appalled since someone had painted in a book. There was no way that I could screw up a collage. However, I got preoccupied with something else for a while, which turned into forever. The cut out pictures from the magazines waited expectantly for me on the floor, but I never got back to them. A few days later, they were put into a plastic bag and tucked away out of sight. The book got hidden somewhere in the chaos of my room, and I forgot all about it. Looking back, I don’t think I ever really wanted to make a collage. I was just too scared of failing to realize
