Molly was itching with excitement. Her parents were taking her on an adventure - and she couldn’t wait to see where they would go! On her way out the front door Molly stopped to grab her favourite beanie from the coat rack; a blue dinosaur with turquoise spikes and tassels that hung over her ears to keep them warm. It was a long drive before the adventure could begin. Molly’s mum had packed some of her favourite books for Molly to read on the way. When Molly’s mum noticed Molly was about to cry, she dropped to her knees and wrapped her arms around Molly in a big embrace. ‘It’s okay Molly, the ball goes back to the nice lady who gave you the golf club; it’s not lost.’ soothed Molly’s mum. Molly was upset when she noticed she had the lowest score, but Molly’s dad explained that in mini golf, the lower the score, the better! Molly was so happy that she’d won; she started flapping her arms around and almost knocked over her strawberry milkshake in excitement. When the chef brought over the cooked pizzas, Molly waited while her dad blew on a piece to cool it down before passing it to her grabby little hands. It was the best pizza Molly had ever tasted. It may have been the plainest flavour: ham, pineapple and cheese, but Molly could taste the freshness and juiciness of the pineapple, and the melted cheese that held the toppings together formed strings from the pizza to her mouth when she took a

To be challenged, is when one’s ability or capacity is put to the test. Tamora Pierce’s ‘Alanna the first Adventure’ and Morris Gleitzman and Paul Jennings’s ‘Deadly Part 1’ while completely different in genre and content, are both text that have challenged and expanded my reading skills. Gleitzman and Jennings’s ‘Deadly Part 1’ is an unexpectedly humorous and horrifyingly wicked story about an adventure where the characters uncover a deadly secret one after the other. I thought that this book would challenge me as I am not used to reading text that are eerie and intimidating. The book/series ‘Deadly’ has two main characters, Gleitzman narrates Amy's story and Jennings narrates Sprocket's, with each of them contributing to alternate chapters.…

Why I Sing Chaeley Winkler I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t singing. Of course, I know there was time before I could speak or burble as infants do, so there must have existed a certain silence before sound, however the mere thought of being so silent—unable to reach out with voice or touch—disturbs me to no end. But these thoughts of a time before sound hadn’t quite crossed my mind until I began to question the finer, tinier oddities in my life. These questions emerged at around the age of seven, before they had manifested as inner thoughts.…

I was sitting beside my classmate, Javier, when Ms. Seitz, with a smile on her face, announced that every person in the class would need to pick a book to read while on Christmas break.…
