Mohs Surgery Research Paper

8. Mohs surgery is a surgical procedure that is used to treat Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). It is done to patients who have a high chance of reoccurring cancer. In the Mohs surgery, the doctor uses a razor blade to cut off the site of cancer on the skin. Smaller cuts are made on the side of the cut and the perimeter is cut again to remove the central body. The specimen is flattened and divided with a scalpel. The wound is then bandaged and medications are applied. A dye is placed on the specimen and the specimen is then cut horizontally, and put on a slide for examination under a microscope. The second part of the specimen is cut horizontally again, and the slides are stained and a cover slip is placed on the top and ready for microscopic examination.
