Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Gandhi was a civil rights activist in the country of India that was controlled by Great Britain prior to World War II. If not for Gandhi, India may have not gained their independence from Great Britain. India was not the country it is today. The city was just awful, everybody was going hungry, people were being enslaved for no reason, but Gandhi cured that. Gandhi didn’t attack the enemy, he took an approach that was unlike no other. He was very subtle, calm, and he knew what to do to get the best result. These qualities sometimes worked, but sometimes they resulted in some conflicts where people of India died. Gandhi’s height and weight was once measured in 1940 with some staggering results for any human. Gandhi was 5’5” and he weighed 102 pounds, which is ridiculous. This man didn’t eat for weeks at a time just so his country would not be controlled by Great Britain. That is determination if I have ever heard of it. Another one of Gandhi’s movements that he led was the “Quit India Movement” in World War II. The Quit India Movement was a civil disobedience movement launched by Gandhi on August 8th, 1942 demanding an end to British rule of India. Gandhi made a speech calling this a “Do or Die” situation. Even though it was wartime, the British still acted upon the Indians. They imprisoned hundreds of members on the INC(Indian National Congress) including Gandhi with that group. The only outside support for the whole situation came from the Americans when president Franklin D. Roosevelt told Great Britain, an ally of the world- to give into some of India’s demands so they could focus on the war. The campaign was eventually crushed by the British rule. Therefore, Gandhi’s attempt was once again shot down like all the ones
