The movie that I chose to watch is called The Blind Side, which is a movie that tells the story of a football player named Michael Oher. This movie was based on a true story and it tells the life of Michael from his childhood, through high school and eventually into the National Football League. As a child, Michael Oher was taken away from his mother and never really had a place to live. In the beginning of the movie he is shown riding in a car with a gentleman and a friend. The gentleman takes the two boys to Wingate Christan School, a Catholic school in Memphis. In the beginning of the movie, Michael was not a football player. He was living on couches and had no ambition to play a sport. This all changed when the Tuohy’s came into his life. Throughout the duration of the movie, Michael’s attitude towards football did a complete turn around. The Tuohy’s gave him something to believe in, they gave him a family, which provided him a support system, something that he had never had. This is a way that his motivation was affected through the need achievement theory. His personality factors were very essential because he needed to avoid failure. He wanted to make the Tuohy’s proud and once he was accepted as part of the football teams family, he wanted to make them proud as well. Another aspect of the need achievement theory that pertained to Michael’s motivation was situational factors. Michael did not want to go back to the old life that he once lived. He did not want to be put back into the situation of not having a place to live, and not knowing if he was going to wake up each morning. This motivated him to work hard on the field and also in the classroom. Another aspect was Michael’s emotional factors. Michael took great pride in what he did. He noticed the benefits of his performance on the field and with the people that he cared the most about. Part of Michael’s success is due part to utilizing the aspects of the need achievement
