Module 7: The Four Dimensions Of Wellness

Improved Essays
The lesson I valued the most in module 7 was the four dimensions of wellness. The reason why I value this lesson principle the most is because, in my mind, an Airman or supervisor, even yourself, needs to be away of fit or “well” you actually are. In the Air force we always here whether the most important aspect to air power is the people or the mission. My opinion on the matter is that without the people of the Corps, the mission would not ne successful to its fullest potential. When an Airman works for you because they want to, not because they have to is when they give their 110%. So what are the four dimensions of wellness? The first dimension that I feel is important is that of physical health. There is no point in coming into the military if you cannot physically perform your duties. For example, every one has that one Airman who is not able to go on …show more content…
Firstly, I will stay active in my Airman’s as well as my personal health. One thing that I enjoyed was working out with my squadron as an young airman. I will continue that principle and hope that my subordinates will join me in physical activities. Secondly, I will promote an environment in my workplace that encourages optimism and a sense of self worth. It will not be all sunshine and rainbows, however, when something is wrong I will give them time to process what is going wrong; I will however provide them the tools to be more resilient in order to bounce back. Next in my workplace, I will talk to my airman one on one to see what drives them. If I can find their purpose or what they believe in, I should be able to harness that and provide the growth that their spiritual health needs. Finally, I will treat my peers and subordinates like humans. It is mostly in human nature to want to interact, have a family or network. I will provide that for them and encourage them to continue to build upon

My Healthy People 2020 objective is to increase the proportion of children and adolescents aged 2 years to 12th grade who use a computer or play computer games outside of school (for non-school work) for no more than 2 hours a day. This is a very broad objective and I haven’t completed my needs assessment at this time but I think I will probably focus on younger children not adolescents. 1. “Selling” this program to meet this Healthy People objective would not be the target for this objective but would be parents, teachers, daycare caretakers or individual who run afterschool programs.…

The Rinehart Institute’s Wellness Assessment was a compelling survey with interesting results. The results from taking the assessment were mind-boggling as I did not expect some of the results to occur the way they did. In particular, my financial average is surprisingly low and money is something I truly love. But some of the results are beneficial to me and beneficial to the people I associate with. For example, my relationship average is a 4.24 which means I am an outgoing person who can keep amazing relationships with people.…

Three goals I would set for my first 90 days entering in a role are; • Clarity • Challenges • Commitment First, I would like to get clarity of my job duties and expectations from my leader. Once I receive that information I would like to have some training classes if needed and a designated person for assistance. Secondly, I would try conquering my challenges by making a check list of do’s and don’ts and make sure that I follow up accordingly.…

Stewardship of the Army Profession and Civilian-Military Relations There are five core characteristics that compose the Army profession; trust, honorable service, military expertise, stewardship, and esprit de corps (Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 1, The Army Profession, 2015, p. 6-1). While all are critical to maintaining a healthy Army, stewardship, as described in ADRP 1 chapter 6, is the central tenant I believe keeps the other four alive. Stewardship is the act of taking care of something. Without it, other core values merely come and go. Like a garden that has good soil, light, and water, it will all still wither away without a gardener to routinely provide more water, turn the soil, and prune the plants.…

Something I need to start doing is getting more involved with my subordinate’s development. In NCOA-ILE we learned of the deliberate development plan and how to guide our airmen through their careers. Creating this plan will help my subordinates in areas they require improvements and make them a valuable asset within the Air Force.…

The reason why the squadron is, in General Goldfein’s words “the beating heart of the United States Air Force,” is simply because much like the heart without it the life blood would not be able to pump in order for the body to function as needed. Now the life blood of the Air Force is our ability to Fly, Fight, and Win, but that is the big Air Force answer. The life blood of the squadron is morale, and bad morale is like leukemia. Firsthand experience has shown what good morale can do in places deemed “worst bases in the Air Force.” From the outside looking in it is easy for someone to deem the weather, the operations tempo, or the mission as bad, but with the right amount of morale any squadron can be successful.…
