Good scholarship means three things:
• Being honest and ethical
• Listing your sources
• Using your own words
It is important to be an ethical researcher as it allows for good scholarship practices. This can be used in conjunction with effective study habits. Cheating or malpractice is about doing the wrong thing by behaving dishonestly. Students cheat because they want to get an advantage over other students. Cheating is dishonest, unfair and unethical. The consequences of cheating could be:
• you receive zero marks for an assessment task
• you have an HSC course withheld
• you are deemed ineligible for the award of the HSC
• your school imposes additional sanctions, e.g. withholding your reference
