There have been many changes that have occurred in the US and throughout the world since the Civil War. Everything from technological advancements to civil rights and even relations with other countries. We have seen many leaders advance our country into what it is today. Some of them have greatly helped and some have caused great turmoil. Whether or not you see our progression as a positive or a negative, you cannot deny that the good has outweighed the bad. I personally see the evolution of US history as a positive thing.

However, there is no denying that without the great sacrifices and failures that America has had to endure, we would not have gotten to where we are today. Many leaders have led us to become one of the great nations in the world but many have also failed. Our past with slavery is not a positive one but the outcome is. The innovations and ideas of so many have undoubtedly transformed America. These are just a few of the reasons why I feel the progression of modern US history has been positive.

Our nation today is still challenged by wars across the world. I believe that President Kennedy showed us a new way of dealing with conflicts in the sense that you don’t necessarily have to resort to war. You can have peace talks and negotiate with other nations in order to solve differences. Yes, there will always be conflict among nations but war is not always the answer. The freedom movement was also significant to the story of America because it proved that determination of just a few people can change not only issues here at home but also around the world. America is not a country that stands silent when faced with adversity. In order to create change, people have to be willing to stand up and do something about it.
