Schools in today 's society are not only adding more technology into their classrooms, but they are using the technology in ways that allow the students to learn with a more hands on approach and have the capability to even teach them self subjects whenever they want. The only situation holding this advancement back, is for the families to afford the technology need for their sons and daughters. The ability of a family to afford technology for their children, such as cellphones, laptops, and tablets, plays a large role in their education by unveiling new resources for studying and practicing that will help them excel in their education. During one school year at Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School, they conducted an experiment to see how well laptops actually help education. At the end of the school year, they found that students in one-to-one computer settings like LGF outperformed peers in traditional classrooms. In a single year, 20 percent of LGF students increased their reading skills by two grade levels. Also, laptops for school are not out of reach for low income families. Laptops such as the XO-1 Laptop, Netbooks, and Chromebooks are all inexpensive computing devices that would excel in an educational environment. However, when a teacher tells a student to research a subject it does not interest the student to fully engage into it. According to KQED News, “As for its effects on cognition: interest effectively turbocharges our thinking. When we’re interested in what we’re learning, we pay closer attention; we process the information more efficiently; we employ more effective learning strategies, such as engaging in critical thinking, making connections between old and new knowledge, and attending to deep structure instead of surface features,” This statement shows how when students are interested in subjects they want to learn about, they can learn better than any opportunity that schools
