The novel, Brave New World, contains a story of a futuristic society in which there are no problems, in which everybody is happy, and in which there are several shocking similarities and differences pertaining to today’s society. There are several topics that were covered in the novel, such as human life and death, consumption of goods and services, and the use of drugs and medicine. All of the topics contained several points in which society in Brave New World could be compared to the society of today. In these comparisons, there were several points that were disturbingly similar, and there were also several points that were drastically different from today’s society. One similarity is that the economy entirely relies upon the consumers. Without stable purchases from consumers, the markets would collapse and leave a devastating toll. Also, consumers are influenced by others around them, meaning that people will buy things that others are buying. Lastly, the government has a say in what is being sold to the public in both cases. However, this is for two different reasons. In the modern society, the government monitors products to ensure that it is safe, clean, and acceptable for the public. One of these effects is the new view of death. Generally, in today’s society, death is viewed as a sad, depressing event, but in Brave New World, death is viewed much differently. The people of the novel see death as normal event, and they do not get upset when anybody dies. This is because they are conditioned from a young age to believe several things that the government want them to think, with death acceptance being one of them. The dying in Brave New World are brought to a comfortable place in their dying hours, and are made to feel content in the little time that they have left. This practice is very similar to how the developed portions of our planet handle this event, but there are several differences in the way the corpses are handled afterward. In our modern society, there are several ceremonies that accompany a person’s death, and the body is discarded in various ways, such as burial, cremation, and other methods. However, in the society of Brave New World, the bodies of former citizens are burned in a factory-like building, and they are used to create organic substances to assist in creating other things. This process involves no special memories of their life, no ceremonies, and no loved ones to accompany them, unlike the modern way of handling the
