In Brave New World there is little use for medication, because most diseases have been cured or destroyed. The medication that is used is for making dying people comfortable, and this is comparable to how medication is used today. The modern world has a great need for medication, since there are still diseases, but the medication has several uses. Most medicine is used to prevent and cure ailments, but there is medicine that is used in the same way as Brave New World. This only further links the similarities between the modern world and Brave New World.
In Brave New World, the topic of the consumption of goods and services comes up occasionally, and it differs greatly from the modern era, but this topic also shares similarities with the modern world. In Brave New World, the citizens develop their buying habits through their predestined caste and though the conditioning that they receive as children. One of these effects is the new view of death. Generally, in today’s society, death is viewed as a sad, depressing event, but in Brave New World, death is viewed much differently. The people of the novel see death as normal event, and they do not get upset when anybody dies. This is because they are conditioned from a young age to believe several things that the government want them to think, with death acceptance being one of them. The dying in Brave New World are brought to a comfortable place in their dying hours, and are made to feel content in the little time that they have left. This practice is very similar to how the developed portions of our planet handle this event, but there are several differences in the way the corpses are handled afterward. In our modern society, there are several ceremonies that accompany a person’s death, and the body is discarded in various ways, such as burial, cremation, and other methods. However, in the society of Brave New World, the bodies of former citizens are burned in a factory-like building, and they are used to create organic substances to assist in creating other things. This process involves no special memories of their life, no ceremonies, and no loved ones to accompany them, unlike the modern way of handling the
