This article talks about the biography of certain offenders, also it talks about how is has been known to downplay social, historical, and cultural context. This source looks at six modern day phenomena related to serial killers. The two modern phenomena that will be beneficial in my research is the one about the mass media coverage and publicity, and the second one is that society can be engineered by the suspect’s crime spree. These play a crucial part in my research because I will be using a content analysis on the media and how the killers affect the community and make them change or engineer the citizens. Breland, Alfiee. 1999. “‘The’ True’ Perpetrators Of Violence: The Effects of the Media on Public Perceptions of Youthful Violent Offenders. This paper talks about the perpetrators of school violence and how the media stereotypes the offenders. Even though this topic is different from my topic it still shows the strength of the media on the public showing that the media can suggest stereotypes to the community and be believed. It shows that the mass media has strong affects on the community in this case it created a youthful violent offender stereotype. This will compliment my topic because in this article it shows how strong the media’s portrayal of something can be. This source will give some background information about how much pull the media has on its local community. In this source it states that some of the causes of fear are physical, social, and demographic characteristics of the neighborhood also the media coverage of the
