Social programs in Canada include all government programs that are designed to assist citizens that for whatever reason, require the assistance provided. As a modern liberalist, the author would agree that social programs are a necessity in order to support the nation and the common good. The Robin Hood Association is a social program that is situated in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Their mission as stated on their website is assisting individuals with disabilities to achieve their personal best and experience a quality lifestyle. Canada is not the only country with a variety of social programs - there are many throughout Britain. Britain has been classified as a liberal welfare state system - both Canada and Britain pride themselves in organizations such as Child Tax Benefits and Workers’ Compensation. The government description of how the CTB program operates in Canada is: “The federal government provides monthly payments to parents or guardians on behalf of children under the age of 18, through a program called the Child Tax Benefit.”. The source draws our attention to the universal healthcare that is situated throughout Canada and Britain. We see the pros of the single payer system and we also see the devastating effects of the United States and their healthcare system. Tommy Douglas and Karl Mark agree with the source in that they are all collectivists and support modern liberalism - they believe “if one suffers, everybody suffers”, while the US continues to deny medical care to citizens that are in dire need. The world would be better off if everyone worked together towards the common good, just as Britain and Canada
