Have you ever wondered if there is a difference between sitcoms back then and now? This paper is going to compare and contrast the differences between an episode of Full House and an episode of the Modern Family. We are able to spot notable differences and similarities by comparing the characters, plot, and setting for both of these sitcoms. In both, Modern Family and Full House, there are many characters we can compare. As seen in Modern Family, Manny steals a necklace on “accident” but doesn’t want to own up to it. This is very strange because Manny is a very proper kid and acts well above his age most of the time. He cares a lot about his appearance and normally isn't the one to steal. This trait may have been inherited from his mom Gloria …show more content…
The plot in Modern Family consists of three families that are all related. One of the families consists of a Latino wife, a White husband and their son Manny. Gloria is his real mom, but Jay is his stepdad. Nowadays, divorce is a very different situation than what it was in the past during the time of Full House. It was harder to get a divorce back then because you had to have a believable reason. Nowadays getting a divorce is just as easy as getting married. Then on top of that in modern family there is an interracial marriage which wass almost unheard of in the 80’s. In this episode, Manny stole a girl's necklace and Jay, his stepdad, finds out about it and makes him tell his mom. Gloria (Mannys mom), who doesn't have the best morals, makes an appointment with the principal to discuss the fact that he stole the girls necklace. Once they get to the school, she asks which locker is hers, then takes the necklace from Manny and proceeds to open the locker. After placing the necklace in the girl’s locker, they leave the school. This kind of behavior would not be tolerated back then. As in Full House when Stephanie cuts Uncle Jesse’s hair; he stormed out of the house to get a haircut, but then returns with two arm casts. Jesse was so distraught about his hair, it resulted in him getting hurt because he wasn't paying attention while he was driving his motorcycle. There's another way to compare Modern Family and

Compare and Contrast Sitcom- Essay Throughout the decades we as viewers witnessed various family TV sitcoms evolve as generation’s change, with many managing to maintain several of the same family core values. I strongly feel that The Brady Bunch, which debuted in the 1960’s and Full House debuting in the 1990’s best illustrate a significant gap between two generations of families that share similarities amongst family values despite their difference in family structure and roles. Both sitcoms are based in a family home setting depicting common life obstacles, struggles as well as plenty of humor that the whole family can enjoy.…

I personally think the show “The Beverly Hillbillies” are in a way exploiting white stereotypes. They are showcasing a family from the country moving into a lavish educated society. The show plays on the perception of white trash society, such as rednecks or hillbillies. Although the show is done for comedy purposes, it does capitalize on stereotypes within society. In the book Dean mentions, “Even critics who enjoy the show do so from a crouched defensive posture” which is regarding to another popularized hillbilly show, Honey Boo Boo, but showcases the feelings audiences may be feeling.…

Throughout this episode of Everybody Hates Chris entitled “Everybody Hates Christmas,” there are flaws within the social message and objectification of Chris. During the episode Chris is constantly struggling with the social discrimination made by his teacher’s assumptions based off of his race. This episode has many ongoing themes, however the way that Chris’ teacher continuously tries to offer food donations to his family remains very prominent. Despite Chris repeatedly explaining to his teacher that his family is fine, she feels the need to give him food, embarrass him in front of his classmates, and stop by his family’s house with a news crew. Watching this episode of ABC’s All in the Family, was very interesting. I do not usually watch the older shows, so this really opened my eyes and showed how the white people thought differently about African-American people. I think that this episode mostly made fun of the prejudices that some people had because of the way Sammy Davis Jr. responded to Archie’s comments. In this show, Archie had several opinions about African-American people, and I got the feeling that he was against equality between the races. He was not so open about it and tried to cover it up when Sammy Davis Jr. came by, but I think that he still did not think that it was right to be equal with the black people.…

I can understand why The Burns and Allen Show was so successful at that time after watching it. To my surprise, it was much less insipid than I imagined. The plots were simple but impressive and the blocking was fine. George Burns and Gracie Allen were a happy couple, and this domestic comedy was set in their home. Harry and Blanche Morton were the Burns' neighbours, Bill Goodwin was a friend of the two families.…

Why You Should Listen We listen every single day, but that doesn 't mean we are hearing everything that is said to us. In Modern Family, the family is like most families where you have embarrassing parents, a father that marries someone that is close to your age, and a son that you disapproves of their choices in life, but you still love them. Selective listening can mess up our relationship with our family when we only hear part of something important they say like “take out the trash”, and later you get into an argument because you only heard some of the conversation and did not do what they asked. This could have all been avoided if you would have been a content-oriented listener. When we listen to our family we should not eavesdrop on them and cause them to feel like we have invaded their privacy.…

Through out this film all the family members are copping differently, whether it be through silence or violence, but they all seem to be having a problem managing their conflicts appropriately and safely. Secondly, when a text is shown in another television system, its form will often be changed or adapted to help its successful assimilation (Rixon 2006). For example, American programmes are sometimes changed as they are used by British broadcasters; this can be by re-editing programmes, perhaps because of the worries over their violent content, or by changing the larger text, of the serial or series, by not screening all the episodes or showing them in a different order to suit the needs of the channel. However, there appears to be no re-editing when broadcasting on British screens, because elements like murderers, divorcees, arson, suicide, car accidents, electrocutions and airplane crashes were not edited out. This might because of the theory…
