Modern Day Witch Hunt Research Paper

Does America have modern day witch hunts? Not witch hunt in the sense of hunting for literal witches, but in the sense of looking for something out of fear. Throughout history mankind has shunned being different from segregation to social barriers put up by social media. These differences lead to fear which leads to “witch hunts”. Witch hunts occur all the time rather we realize it or not. From literal witch hunts in Salem to trying to catch terrorist now at every airport and federal building. The Red Scare in the 1950’s was just a modern day witch hunt. The “Crucible” is a perfect way to see how witch hunts went. The Red Scare and the “Crucible” share a lot of similarities. In this era people feared witches. The things that they looked for were not green women with warts and a broomstick to travel on, but really anything that made you look different or act different than the rest of the town people. If you read certain books or had abnormal features you were a witch. Similar thing with communism, If you read certain books or said certain thing you were being accused of communism. A mass hysteria took place when the fear of communism struck the U.S( History.com staff). During witch hunts in the “Crucible” they would send police to your house to search it or to arrest you because you were accused. Even important people dealt with this. Proctor had them search his house and bring him to court. During the Red Scare even federal officials were being analyzed to determine the loyalty that they have towards their country(History.com staff). The searching and the accusations lead to a chain of events that will be remembered in U.S history forever. Just like the characters in the “Crucible” wouldn’t forget the witch
