In this essay, I will argue that it is permissible to kill a villainous aggressor, an innocent aggressor, and an innocent threat, but not an innocent bystander. According to Judith Jarvis Thompson, it is morally permissible for person A to kill person B in self-defense if and only if (1) B will kill A unless A kills B, and (2) if B kills A, the B will violate A ’s right that B not kill A (Handout #16). The villainous aggressor is someone who is intentionally trying to kill you and who is morally responsible for trying (Handout #16).…

The benefits coming from the development of technology today are not worth the risks of the potential misuses, loss of human nature, dependency, and/or any other potential problem that could arise. We have much proof that technology can be a dangerous thing such as nuclear weapons, then again, it has proven to be an extremely beneficial thing too such as airplanes. It is an absolute fact however that technology proves to be dangerous no matter how helpful it may be, if it is placed in the wrong hands, and that simply is not a factor that should be a risk. To begin, “Sometime early in this century the intelligence of machines will exceed that of humans.…

While I do not agree with the views of the authors, I do agree that technology will only continue to grow and there will be benefits. Although I see concerns with this article, I can also see the impact this situation will have on our society over time. In just the last decade, we have seen technology grow, and shrink immensely. By shrink, I mean we can fit what used to be a 60 pound computer system into our pockets. With the decrease in size, the increase in popularity seems to only be growing.…

Villains on the other hand possess qualities that are more realistic, rather than being the perfect superhuman striving to save the world from itself. Portraying a villain would be fun compared to playing a hero because of the diversity and uniqueness of characteristics in villains, you could really get into the character and make it your own. Think about how easy it would be to get lost in a role such as Poison Ivy, a villain obsessed with botany who is immune to all natural poisons and toxins due to an attempt on her life, in comparison to Catwoman, Batman’s bland…

This doesn't necessarily mean that villains are geniuses, they simply don't make stupid decisions and they are just very crafty with their plans. One of the most intelligent tricks villains have, is that they're always two steps ahead of their opponents. They are evil, so they always consider every option, they always think of what might happen ahead of time, so in order to defeat villains, the heroes must always outsmart them. POWERFUL Villains must also be powerful, whether it is by having super powers or by simply being a politician, or someone who has a lot of money. Powerful villains hang on to their resources, they have an army under their command, or if a villain has a certain power, then he or she would take advantage of…

There have always been fears of the unknown and things we cannot control, with the ever expanding technology we have in the world today it is no wonder that movies and television with humans being destroyed by technology is a common theme. As it is this idea in essence is the view that, ‘Technology - with all its promise and potential - has gotten so far beyond human control that it is threatening the future of humankind.’ Personally I view technology as a danger to people as it; is changing the shape and size of our brains and causing various health problems, changes our perception of things values and ethics in real life, and changes our ideals and what we think of as natural. Technology on a whole has changed the nature of human beings and…

If I were offered the role of a the villain or the hero in a movie, I would absolutely choose the villain because of their many layers of complexity. Also because, nine times out of ten, being the hero tends to be a very stereotypical role. The hero usually comes from a tough or troubled background, overcomes that adversity to rise above and saves the day. It is typically cut, dry and in many cases predictable; while on the other hand, the villain is not always revealed or identified immediately. A villain typically has a complex backstory that many do not know until late in the movie, so the actor or actress faces the challenge of having to let that complex backstory come through, without giving too much away.…
