In an article about hero worship in America the author tells that “The hero is thus seen to be a personage of idealized virtues, intensely admired and honored by the people” (Klapp, 60). Spiderman is also admired by the people for his unimaginable skills like shooting webs from his wrist, when he first found out that he used his powers to impress others. He used it as strength to help people in need by swinging from one place to another. Spiderman used his powers to glorify his image like Odysseus did with his strengths and athleticism. Both Odysseus and Spiderman have a strong sense of pride for themselves about what they did. This trait brought along consequences for both Odysseus and Spiderman, Spiderman spent too much time trying to impress people when he could have helped them and become a hero in their eyes. Due to this he could not save his uncle Ben from being murdered. Odysseus’s pride made him reveal his identity to Poseidon, who went to seek vengeance on him, leading to Odysseus suffering his way back home. Both characters overcame their pride and used their strengths for good use. In the end, Odysseus was willing to use his pride with patience. When he was disguised as a beggar, he did not react when he got abuses from the suitors. He endured the abuses until he was able to trap them and strike them down. The quality that is passed down from Odysseus to Spiderman is the ability to overcome pride, and use your powers to help
