Heroism. The stereotypical hero has super strength or super powers and saves the lives of innocents and defeats the bad guy or the super villain although superpowers is not the only thing that can make a true hero. Characters like and The man from the poem A Man and Mrs. Riley from October Sky can be seen as a hero although they are nothing but a normal person like you and me. What makes them a hero is their actions. They may have helped someone or was influential or inspiring to others. Those are the qualities that can make someone be seen as a hero. He showed others that he can do just as much without an arm. A hero doesn’t give up when life is hard and call it quits. A hero tries twice as hard to be successful in something. In the end he ended up making the best out of the situation and became better than he was before with the arm. According to the poem “And where the arm had been torn away a wing grew.” This shows that he became overall better as a person without the arm.
