Hello, year 10 and Miss Johnson, today I will be discussing how bias may be present in documentaries and feature articles. The feature article that is being discussed is remembering chernobyl written by Tobias Muenchmeyer and the documentary be discussed is bowling for columbine directed by Michael Moore. The definition of bias is ‘prejudice for or against one person or group, especially in a way considered to be unfair’(dictionary.com, 2017), bias can also be a way to manipulate an individual's decision because they will be give stronger point for or against one side. It is important to be able to identify bias because you should be able to come to you own conclusion about a situation, person or movement. The media uses bias to their advantage, they are able to manipulate facts and change your understanding, most of the time to sell, whether it be a product, an image, or simply to make something appear worse that it is. …show more content…
It investigates reasons why gun violence continues to be so prominent in American society, and Moore attempts to connect this by looking at the Columbine High School Massacre which occurred in Littleton, Colorado. This is a subjective documentary, made to make you think that america has a toxic gun culture. The film uses bias data and manipulates people in interviews to make the audience turn against the individuals or group. Most of the evidence is manipulate including a speech from the Charlton Heston, Michael Moore cuts the footage to seem like he was rude and would never give you his guns but he was actually very sympathetic toward the victims, they do this to make the audience want to be against charlton and the
