Mock's Trial: Success Or Failure?

Improved Essays
Chances are high that more people have been faced by a trial, not the kind in court, but the kind where they are competing to show prowess in something. If they have succeeded in the trial they have felt accomplished or if you failed you just stay angry for a little bit at first and then you just think what you could of done or done better. Better yet, you failed even though you (thought) you did everything perfect or at least 95% right and you’re just waiting on the verdict like “man, I’ve got this one in the history books 100% and there’s no way I could've failed.” so you go get a tattoo of your accomplishment before you even know the result, like one of those idiots on Twitter, and then you look dumb. Well of course, this happened to me (except for the tattoo part). …show more content…
I went through Tee-ball, to coach pitch, to modified kid pitch, and then finally to kid pitch. Fast forward to 9th grade and eligibility to play high school baseball is here and it was a whole semester trial of showing the coaches my skills. Skip ahead to late November, early December and the whole “do you think you did enough” chat starts going around and at this point I still think “I’ve got this 110%, no doubt in my mind.” I’m thinking about all the notable things I did and I could remember a lot of good things I did, and not absolutely terribly bad things I did, Although, I’m sure I had the occasional error every once in awhile. Cuts would be made in a few weeks and I was not prepared for what would be said to

I have played baseball ever since I was a young kid, but somehow, at seventeen I still had numerous struggles with it. You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…

In the story, one concept that parallels the theme was the good and evil that coexists amongst humans. During Tom Robinson’s trial, Jem and Scout both see the court case and witness Tom’s wrongful conviction of rape. Tom Robinson was a good-hearted and innocent man, but the evil prejudice and hatred inside of Bob Ewell makes Tom become wrongfully convicted. This leads to Tom’s panicking and he later attempts to escape from authorities and he gets shot and killed. In a similar way, Boo Radley, despite what the local rumors say, is a good person that did not want to cause harm.…

Overall, this year’s Native Son Mock Trial went very well, even if there are a few growth areas for the lawyers and witnesses. Most of the lawyers did a very good job presenting their ideas and examining witnesses. Growth areas for them would be to be more prepared when going up questioning the witnesses, speaking louder, and actually asking relevant questions that would support their side. Additionally, I think the judge should know her responsibilities better and know when to say what. In addition, the judge should have been more forceful and assertive, so the trial could go by smoothly.…

I couldn't wait to get back on that field in front of those scouts and show them that I had become a far better player than I was the year before. I had put so much effort into getting better in all aspects of my game and I knew I was poised to have a great tryout. After hours days that felt like years of grueling work in the weight room and in the batting cages, the day had come to tryout to punch my ticket to Long Beach. At that point, I went out on that field and did what I loved to do.…

When I entered the courtroom, the previous case was just beginning to conclude. I was very surprised at the routine nature of the hearings; defendants and legal advisors seemed to cycle in and out of the room and the benches, with little disruption. Unlike some television programs that depict major celebrations or periods of despair following a verdict/hearing, I found the process of going through cases to be fairly nondescript. Defendants were…
