History Doomed to Repeat Itself
As we all know, Suzanne Collins created a trilogy called the Hunger Games that many people may consider incredible or outstanding. One of the books from the trilogy, known as Mockingjay, stands out. Why? Well, it seems that this book has multiple similarities to the civil war that took place on the beautiful grounds of our home, the United States. Now, did Suzanne Collins intend to have the book relate to the civil war? Could be a possibility. Maybe her learnings of the American Civil War inspired her to write a book in her own imaginative, creative way. And if she did, what are these similarities?
The main similarity that the American Civil War and the Mockingjay share is that there are two domains/factions fighting in what they believe is right. In the American Civil War, the Union (North) believed slavery was inhumane and that slavery had no place in a …show more content…
For the reason that sharecropping is basically where a person gets permission from a landowner to grow crops on their property for only a small share. When Katniss and Gale get permission to go hunting, the only catch is that the food goes to the kitchen. Katniss’s and Gale’s share is the enjoyment of doing what they love most, hunting. Another one would be Gale pretty much being the Harriet Tubman in Mockingjay. Since Harriet Tubman rescued slaves through the Underground Railroad, she can be related to Gale because he saved about 800 people by escaping from the attack on District 12. You can say that Harriet Tubman didn’t save that much people or she kept taking trips back and forth. Gale didn’t have the opportunity to go back so he took as many people as he could gather in the matter of seconds then fled. Finally, Katniss can be compared to John Wilkes Booth because both of them assassinated
