Mock Nursing Simulation Essay

In today’s health care setting, the demand in health management services are constantly increasing, from medical emergencies, to specific medical tasks dependent on the specific hospital unit. Emergency situations occur on a daily basis, and health care staff feel the stress, especially during medical emergencies. The purpose of this change project is to implement mock clinical simulations for nursing staff. As “the knowledge base of nursing is growing exponentially” (Curl, Smith, Chisholm, McGee, Das, 2016) and the need for frequent education increases , mock clinical simulations can help to provide proactive and efficient care to both patient and nursing staff. In fact “nurses experience high levels of anxiety and have difficulty recalling the knowledge and demonstrating the skills required during medical emergencies”( Herbers & Heaser, 2016), when many of the required skills are not performed on a daily basis . Therefore “the use of mock code simulation can improve nurse’s confidence and performance” (Herbers & Heaser, 2016), in medical emergencies. A study was created to show that a “lack of confidence can lead to hesitation and uncertainty” (Herbers & Heaser, 2016). When a lack of confidence arises in medical emergencies it can affect the safety of the patient as well as contribute to adverse outcomes and or worsening of medical emergency. As for nurses being first responders to many medical emergencies, “nursing staff must have the confidence to take action and deliver the care needed during a code situation” (Herbers & Heaser, 2016).
