Mock Interview Weaknesses

Decent Essays
Overall the interview went fairly well. During it there were some major flaws that were made apparent to me. In the future I will make sure to be more thorough while preparing for the interview. Along with that I learned that if I am very prepared for the interview I will in turn be more confident. I am grateful that we conducted this mock interview and would suggest it be done with other classes.

Throughout the interview I felt a mixture of anxiety and nervousness. Mostly I give this to the fact that I could have been more prepare for my interview. Another reason I felt this though was because I generally don't like to look people in the eye for long periods of time. When certain questions were asked and I didn't have an answer ready I

Along with that I made great eye contact. I also displayed a confident and calm presence throughout the entire interview. Another strength I feel I had was a good and solid handshake. Last but not least I think that I had an overall positive interview. Even if she was asking me about a weakness of mine.

One of my interviewing weaknesses would have to be my lack of examples. Although my interview was satisfactory it lacked luster. With examples the interviewers get a better picture of who you really are as a person. Another weakness I realized I had was I fidgeted with my hands under the table a lot during the interview. Which can be very distracting when I am trying to get my point acrossed.

From this experience I have learned that it is always a great idea to prepare before hand. Even if your have to sit down in front of the mirror or set up your own mock interview with family members. I also learned that I am there to sort of brag about myself and show all the great characteristics I have and can bring to the company. In the future I won't be shy about my accomplishments and I intend to be ready with examples to prove it. Overall I need to be more confident and

The biggest surprise during the interview was to find out that Deborah still faces struggles with asking others for help. Many times when people are higher up in a company they are glad to delegate their work to other employees. I felt helpful in the fact that I was able to use information that we were taught in lab and class to somewhat flip the switch and guide her. I reminded her that it is not showing weakness to ask others for help, something I also have to remind myself sometimes. Another surprise is that she still faces weaknesses with her communication skills regardless of her age and work/life experience.…

Ms Moya Malcolm was my counselor when I was in the Upward Bound Program and I’ve known her almost six years. Before the interview we chatted a bit about how I was doing in school and about the program. This was to avoid the questions from feeling to sudden or rushed. I feel that my main strength as an interviewer was that I asked questions that were specific to the program.…

Diversity Interview I completed this interview with an old friend, Darian, she is African American and her prefered sexual orientation is female. I have never really given much thought on how different we are, and still believe we are more alike than different. But we do have some rather large things that distinguish the two of us from each other. The major ‘skin deep’ things being she has a girlfriend and is African American.…

For the professional interview assignment I interview a woman named Victoria Bauer, who works as a board certified behavioral analyst for the Inland Regional Center. With my certification I would like to be working with high-profile criminals, but Mrs. Bauer works with children who have autism and other developmental disabilities. As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…

I wish I used less fillers and mazes and was more precise. Sometimes, I would use too much selective attention, for example I focused so much on the interviewee’s family relationships and reciprocal treatment, that I forgot to ask about her resentment for putting others first. I also could have questioned her coping skills regarding her family’s laxity. Whereas in interview one, I believe my strengths included providing great minimal encouragers, nodding my head, counselor congruence, and showing greater interest.…

Final Field Project For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…

Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…
