The person I have chosen as a famous leader is Martin Luther King Jr. I have chosen him because he has done many things to shape society today. Let me tell you a little about his personal life. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta. He was a Charismatic leader. King had one brother one sister . He married Coretta Scott King. King had 4 children. A few things he did were the Memphis Sanitation workers strike, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the “I had a dream” and the African-American civil rights. Martin Luther King Jr. education began at a very early age. His mother was a school teacher who taught the young MLK to read before he even entered school. He attended David T. Howard Elementary School in Atlanta at the age of five years old but the starting age at that time was six so he had to return the next year. King graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. It was at Morehouse that Martin Luther King was exposed to the writings of Henry David Thoreau. King was inspired by Thoreau’s essay on Civil Disobedience, and it started the momentum that would one day change the landscape of our society. The night before his assassination in April 1968, Martin Luther King told a group of striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee: “We’ve got to give ourselves to this struggle until the end. Nothing would be more tragic than to stop at this point in Memphis. We’ve got to see it through” King believed the struggle in Memphis exposed the need for economic equality and social justice that he hoped his Poor People’s Campaign would highlight nationally. On 11 February over 700 men attended a union meeting and unanimously decided to strike. Within a week, the
