It’s an unusually cloudy day in LA when I met up with Mitch. His outfit of a Vetements Oversized Bomber Jacket layered over a Saint Laurent Turtleneck matched with Balenciaga Leather Platform Boots, was an outfit that screamed confidence. Paired with a confident walk and intimidating gaze, you would think he had a career based in the fashion industry. It’s a look that borders on intimidating, and slightly aggressive, especially for the general laid back style of LA, where he lives when he isn’t traveling the world touring.

Mitch Grassi is one fifth of credible acapella group Pentatonix and one half of YouTube duo SUPERFRUIT. With 3 Grammy Awards, and over 13 million YouTube subscribers, Pentatonix is a group that is unknown to some, but incredibly famous to others. SUPERFRUIT is a YouTube channel that Grassi started with band member Scott Hoying, and has gained over 2 million subscribers. The platforms that these groups have formed have allowed for Mitch to express himself in ways that he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do otherwise. When I ask what he thought his life would look like without what he has now he sighs ‘I feel like if I wouldn’t have the platforms I have now I would be working in a coffee shop, trying to attempt a hipster lifestyle’. The thought makes him visibly shudder.

Unafraid to wear things that look affected or awkward, Grassi can be considered one of the most forward-thinking dressers on the scene. It’s something that hides in plain sight. ‘I am intrigued by the awkward looks, and the disassembled nature of European high-fashion,’ he says, talking of

Epstein understood that he needed to approach this industry from a new perspective and that “style interacted with show business” (103). Epstein’s acknowledgement of the importance of fashion is illustrated in the fresh new panache he fabricated. The style Epstein chose for the suits indicates there was a deliberation involved. He did not wish to follow the flashy, boxy, bright colored suits. His choice to be “influenced by the latest European fashions” was also strongly due to his own personal love for the style.…

The traditional view of art has changed over time just as most things have. Naturally, the act of perception has differed opinions on what society considers as art. Dance, paintings, photography, drawings, music, literature, and sculpting, are what comes to mind when contemplating the aspects of art. The limitation to defining a word so opinionated leaves out room for self-expression. The traditional ideas of what is considered art should be broadened; granted, although not tangible, art can be seen through ambitions, emotions, and expression through appearances when not limited to the customary definition.…
