Have you been looking into dentures to replace your missing teeth? If so, know that it is a great way to restore your smile and get you back to eating your favorite foods once again. Unfortunately, having a set of fake teeth does not mean that you can ignore them. Dentures need just as much care are regular teeth, and not knowing how to care for them will lead to making one of these five mistakes.

Not Brushing Your Gums

One of the biggest misconceptions about dentures is that the teeth are indestructible. It leads to new denture wearers not brushing their teeth because they assume that nothing can go wrong with their dentures. If something does happen to the dentures, new wearers also believe it is a cheap and easy fix.

Brushing Incorrectly

A problem with dentures is that you can brush them incorrectly. There are not nerves in your dentures, so it is hard to judge how hard you’re brushing at any given time.

Brushing your dentures with too much pressure will be bad for the surface. To avoid complications, you should only be brushing with a toothbrush that has soft bristles. You should be able to brush with a normal amount of pressure and not be too hard on the dentures.

In addition, there are several types of toothpaste that are safe for use on dentures. They are less abrasive and won’t cause damage to the surface of the dentures when brushing.

Drying Out The Dentures

Do you know what to do with your dentures overnight while you are sleeping? A mistake that can be made is taking them out and setting them on the nightstand so that they dry out.
