Religions are one of most important part. In The Kite Runner, Amir found his mother's book which is about the history between the Pashtuns and the Hazaras "… reason Pashtuns had oppressed the Hazaras was that Pashtuns were Sunni Muslims, while Hazaras were Shi'a" (9). This shows that religion is one of the factors that how they treated each others and see them as friends or enemies. The Pashtuns attacked the Hazaras just because they believe in different Allah. Their religion also determine what kinds of people they are. "Hassan is a Hazara, and Hazaras were despised and bullied in Kabul" (Bunce, 1). In Kabul, Hazaras can only be servants for the Pashtuns since they think the Hazaras are the dirtiest and the lowest class people and they do not deserve to do anything else. The Hazaras were treated unfairly and most of them live in poverty. This also lead to the reason why Hassan was raped by Assef because of "The tribe based racism that motivated Assef's attack" (Conlogue, 1). Another evidence that showed in the book that Hazaras was not see as equal people like others was when Amir went back to Kabul and saved Hassan's son, a driver asked him "Why on earth did they risk their lives for a mere Hazara boy" (267)? This quote shows exactly how they think a Hazara is not worth to be save. Kite Tournaments are also a tranditional culture in Afghan during winter since there was no television.(Conlogue,1). The kite tournament was a great day for the kids to complete their kite flying skills but it is also the day that Assef raped Hassan and Amir made his sin which haunted him for a long
